It’s a sign!

June 30, 2009

We were on the road to Springfield for about 7 and a half hours, but we did stop off at some caves and go along a lot of windy roads. Got some pics of some of the original classic signs too. If you can’t tell yet from other post, we are all having an amazing time.

Still nice and hot out here, and Mike is joining us tomorrow!

Beers in Chicago…

June 30, 2009

While we have a wired internet connection, I can upload a little video of us just before going into seeing Transformers 2 in Chicago…

Day 6 – Tulsa/Broken Arrow

June 30, 2009

24 houuuuurs from Tuuuuulsa!

Ok maybe not. More like a 4 hour trip. The 2nd largest city in the state of Oklahoma!

Former Indian Country, Broken Arrow was named after the town’s Creek name – Rekackv (pronounced thlee-Kawtch-kuh), meaning broken arrow. Sounds Vulcan to me, you try saying that!?

Probably all have bumpy misshaped heads there too I imagine. At a guess.

Oklahoma! Oklahoma! Oklahoma!

giggity giggity, gig-git-y

June 30, 2009

We spent ages on the road today, driving along the original route 66 route and stopping off to take photos and film of various random stuff. We arrived in Springfield fairly late and then ventured out for a bite to eat and found this charming eating establishment.

All the hostesses were extremely friendly and first class (tasty). Especially the brunette, but she wasn’t on the menu unfortunately.

Why are we only staying here one day?!?!?!

9am view

June 29, 2009

We didn’t manage to get up the big Arch last night since it had all sold out, so we booked a trip up there this morning for 9am.

Little did we know we would be drinking so late, so was bit of struggle this morning. Nice view though.

You travel up in a little space pod lift that seats 5 people, really cramped. Oddly enough the man and his daughter in our pod used to live in Bedfordshire in the Chicksands base?! – small world.

Wakey Wakey!

June 29, 2009

We went for a few beers last night in St Louis. Was a bit quiet being a Sunday, but we eventaully stumbled into a bar and grill place that was packed.

Turns out they were having a Wake for some guy that had been shot last year. Friendly enough bunch though, and one of them was the spit of the Cannonball run bloke – Dom DeLuise.

Da Da Daaaaa – Captain Chaos!

Euuuugh, all slightly hung over today though mind you. Time to pack and head on out into the sunlight – luckily it’s Luke’s turn to drive.

Day 5 – Springfield, Missouri

June 29, 2009

Another Springfield today? – this time in Missouri though. confusing.

A 4 hour trip today. Though there are some caves on the way that could be worth a visit, let’s hope it doesn’t turn out like The Decent ey.

Turns out that Jesse James and his outlaw band used em to hide out in back in the day too, wadda yer kno.

Nice Room

June 29, 2009

The hotel room here is a mini apartment! – we have a kitchen, and a mini living room.

Plus we have a nice desk by the window with a wired internet connection. So nice and fast updates for the blog.

Tomorrow we might need to plan our route a bit better, since today we took 7 hours to get here, where the book says it could take only 2 hours to get between hotels. Mind you, we did follow most of the original route 66 road weaving in and out of all sorts of weird and wonderful places.

Another nice view…

June 29, 2009

Just checked into our St Louis Hotel, and we got another great room.

The view out of the window shows the Gateway Arch – just across the road.

American Cars

June 28, 2009

On the way to St Louis, we stopped off to take some photos of some typically american cars…

We also took our first road kill photo – a racoon! – but its on the other camera, will post up when we get a chance. Time to tuck into a HUGE slice of Chocolate mud pie before we set off again.
